Direct To Metal & Direct to Rust Primer Kit

"DTM" (Direct to Metal) primer features a true direct-to-metal resin, along with rust encapsulator technology. This technology is specifically engineered to adhere to and bond with corroded substrates, forming a permanent barrier that prevents oxygen from interacting with the iron surface, thereby eliminating the potential for oxide or rust formation. While it's not recommended to apply this primer over heavy rust, it has demonstrated the ability to withstand harsh conditions.

Moreover, our primer boasts an extremely high build, akin to polyester filler, yet it offers flexibility and won't crack like polyester fillers can. However, it's important to note that Tamco's "DTM" primers were not primarily designed to provide long-term protection for vehicles left outside in the elements. For such scenarios, it's recommended to first apply Tamco's DTA epoxy as a base layer for enhanced durability in long-term restorations.

**New User tip 5310/5311/5312** This primer does best with a 2.0-2.5 tip. If you want the best build, the best flow, a 2.5 is recommended. This will give you amazing build, and spray-ability, and no shrinkage with this series. No reduction needed when used this way. With a 1.8 tip you’ll need to mix it 4:1:1 with primer hardener.

Q&A

Q: I normally spray primers in the 50 degree temps. Why can't I use your primer in the 50's??

A: You may not realize it, but most likely you are using whats called alkyd, or polyester urethane. A code name for "enamel paint". Enamel based primers will cure without a hardener (although adding hardener improves their durability). There is metal dryers in those "other brands." Hardener stops working at about 60 degrees. So when you buy our DTM primer and using our hardener, Your primer will not dry as its designed to. Heat up your area.

Q: Can I use your DTM primers as a sealer? I want to skip the sealer step.

A: Yes you can however it will not be as slick as our Forever Seal. If you choose to mix our primer as a sealer, follow the TDS sheet. Our reducer is required.

Q: Why is Hr1360 Fast reducer not recommended??

A: It's really too fast to use in the primer. Fast reducer could lead to cracking or pinholes.

the product works great. It is the products containers! I have purchased at least 15 gallons and everyone of them were damaged so badly I had to pour them into a different can to use a stirr lid. then there is the fact you cannot purchase the primer not in a kit. I have a large overstock of hardner.
