Easy to use, amazing results

My project this winter was to finally repaint and restore a beloved Ernie Ball Stingray bass guitar that was starting to look pretty rough after years of gigs and whatnot. I wanted to paint it with colorshifting pigments and holographic flakes, and make a unique, psychedelic look for my guitar, which was a very typical looking black to amber/orange kinda color scheme before. I decided to go with tamco because I've used the intercoat and basecoat in the past, and I knew it was a quality product. This, however, was the first time that I actually had ever clearcoated something before, and initially, I bought the glamour clear.

So I get everything painted and cleared, hang up my guitar in a temperature controlled box I built just for this, wait a month, check it, and I'm leaving dents and fingerprints all over it everywhere I touch. I deiceded to put it in the box for another month, knowing that clear can take a while to cure, and it's winter in Michigan, and maybe the humidity or coldness could have thrown something off, even though both of those things should be accounted for in the box... So, then after 2 months, it still didn't feel cured right, it wasn't denting anymore, but I still would leave finger prints like crazy and it still smelled like uncured clear and felt kinda soft, and I decided I must have gotten the mix wrong or something, so I strip it all and start from scratch.

For my second attempt, I bought this high speed, high impact clear, because I didn't want to wait around to see if I made a mistake again, and man, I'm glad I did. With this stuff I was able to get my whole guitar painted and cleared in 2 days, and after a single day of waiting to make sure it was cured, it was playable, totally done other than some polishing and removal of the couple of drips that I accidentally had. It looked every bit as good as the glamour clear, with none of the waiting, and it was a much nicer, easier time using this product. Once it's down, it flows and covers and sets up pretty quick. With the glamor clear, I had to be careful about angles and curves and it seemed like it was easier to overspray, and you can't move or tilt the object you're painting even a teensy bit, or it'll pool up and you'll get a run. With the high speed clear, I didn't have to worry as much about if I sprayed too much or too little, it sort of evens itself out almost. If I wanted to lift it a bit to get at a corner or curve better, no problems, no pooling, no runs, it's on and that's that. It's crazy how much better of an experience this was for someone like me with little experience with clears. Like night and day.

If there's any drawback to this clear, I could see it being too fast for something big, and if you build it up too much it does have a little cloudiness to it. The glamour clear on the other hand, I let some dry in a mixing bucket (forgot about it, catalyzed too much) and it's like 3-4 inches thick, and you can see though it perfectly clear, like a thick rubbery lens. But, this is something I discovered in experiments that I did on some scrap and speed shapes that I had laying around. You need to put on like 6 layers of the speed clear to see that cloudiness, so for most people and projects, this isn't a real thing to be concerned about. Maybe if you were using some VERY coarse flake, you might have to build the finish that thick, and if that was your specific situation, or you wanted to paint something big like a whole car, I'd stick to the more traditional slower clears and try to learn how to use them better, but I mostly paint smaller things, so this high speed clear is a godsend. It's literally exactly what I needed to find. I'm sure I'll be buying a lot more of it in the future.

Tough clearcoat

I have been using the high-speed impact clear on lures for quite a few years now, and it can withstand the rigors of fishing ,holding up very well...That statement might not sound like much, but a bad cast can put your lure in trees,up side a rock,log or bridge, etc...Definitely a good litmus test for any clear coat! I've used numerous brands through the 30+ years I've been making lures and Tamco brand stands superior to the rest. Recommend to all!
